The main types of bronchial carcinomas are squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma,
large cell and small (oat) cell carcinoma. Metastases may be found in the
brain, bone, liver and adrenals (haematogenous metastases). Lymphatic spread
is through the bronchopulmonary nodes and the mediastinal nodes. A central
bronchial carcinoma presents early because of obstructive symptoms.
