  INFO/WWW-LINKS:
Volvolus means twisting of the gut, especially the sigmoid colon. In small
bowel obstruction vomiting occurs earlier, distension is less and the pain
is higher in the abdomen. On AXR small bowel obstruction shows central gas
shadows (gas-fluid interfaces, horizontal fluid levels) and there is no gas
in the large bowel. Small bowel is identified by valvulae conniventes which
completly cross the lumen - in contrast large bowel haustra do not cross all
the lumen`s width. Causes: Adhesions, Herniae, intersusception, paralytic
ileus, tumor, gallstones In large bowel obstuction pain is more constant.
On AXR gas is usually proximal to the blockage located. Causes: tumor, volvulus,
    faeces

D:

  large
bowel obstruction caused by sigmoid volvulus.
Arteriosclerotic calcification of the abdominal aorta

  It is not
easy to find an exactly corresponding slice to every pathological example!
    For that reason the
    FILM

    is
    recommended!
Once opened you may use it for every pathological example.
